Hello dear friends, followers, and amazing supporters!
As many of you know, last year Random hats: Hats 4 Haiti was a complete and total success! We raised $2061.05 for Random Acts, and everyone got their name and a message for Misha in a card that we got to give him along with the donations last year at Vancon! If you missed it, You can see it Here on Youtube, filmed by a very lovely friend I made at the con! Misha later asked me to thank everyone, he took my email and was going to send a personal thank you to everyone who donated. Unfortunately, I’m fairly certain he took the email down wrong or misheard me, and it never got to us.. But it’s the thought that counts! He was very gracious, and we got to help a lot of people who really needed the support! it was an amazing experience, Tophe and I got to speak with (And in my case meet at the convention!) So many amazing folks through our charity project..
There’s no way we couldn’t do something similar again this year!
This year, I’d like to do something a bit different. We showered Misha and his charity of choice (Personally, it’s my favourite as well.) with love and donations for good, and gave him a great birthday gift in the process. This time around, I’d like to spread that love a little ways, and see what we can do to show someone else amazing a bit of charity as well. With that said, I propose this.
Last year, many of you gathered together your support not only to support random acts, but to wish Misha a very happy birthday. This year, Richard Speight Jr’s 43rd birthday will be on September 4th, which is only a couple of weeks after Vancon, the event where we will be presenting the donations to our candidate of choice. Why not keep the joy in the family, my friends? I propose this: We raise money, We do the same formula as before. Everyone who donates any amount gets their name and a message of their choosing (Anything you wish.) in a card that will be given to Richard, along with all of your donations, at Vancon in august. The amount we raise will be given to him for the charity of his choosing. I will be going to his Meet and greet to give it to him personally, and really I can’t think of a better person to give it to after Misha.
Everyone crowds around Jensen, Jared, Misha.. But while the supporting actors get plenty of love from the fans, it doesn’t meet NEARLY that degree that the stars get. Richard was the first person who came to mind for me; Not only is he an amazing actor, writer, and general film buff.. for any of you who have met him at a convention, you’ll know that he goes out of his way more than almost anyone else to make you feel comfortable and at ease. He’s like an instant bro! I don’t see why he shouldn’t get just as much love as everyone else, and why we can’t spread our random act of kindness to someone else this year, and really make a difference while in the process really surprising someone who might not expect it! Who’s with me!?
Did I mention he’s got a mancrush on Martin Freeman, and loves Sherlock? Not that this is a big point here, but He’s one of us.
I’d like to officially open for donations now for those interested on getting ahead of the curve! There will be tweaking needed for our home page here to set up for our 2013 project as we’re still set up from last year’s, but in the mean time if you’d like to donate any amount now before you forget or whatnot, you are welcome to do so! Once you’ve made a donation, please send an email to hats4haiti@hotmail.com, with the name and the message you’d like in the Birthday card for Richard! Please provide your paypal email account if you can, just so I can confirm who is who!
There will be hats up for sale now and then as well, We have until august, so in the mean time let’s see what we can get together folks! In the mean time, i’ll probably be donating half of all funds I make through the sale and commissions of hats on my deviantart account until then. Gotta do our parts!
